Noir Desir

This band has seen many of the ups and downs of the industry but , nevertheless, they have been around for almost 30 years. Sometime during 1980, two friends, Bertrand Cantat and Serge Teyssot-Gay, formed the beginning of Noir Desir. Some time later and a few lineup changes they settled with Jean-Paul Roy on bass and Denis Barthe on drums. However, it wasn't until 1987 when their first album, "Ou Veux Tu Qu'je R'garde?", would be released. This album did nothing. It didn't make a position on the France album charts but this did not stop them. Noir Desir continued to release albums and their next three records managed to go Gold in France. After that, "666.667 Club", released in 1996, and "Des Visages Des Figures", released in 2001, both reached No. 1 on the France album charts and went 2x Platinum. "Des Visage Des Figure" included the bands biggest hit to date, "Le Vent Nous Portera". Manu Chao (article on him coming later) was even roped in to play guitar on the track. Since then we haven't heard much. Hoverer, there was a live album in 2005 just to keep the hype up despite the legal issues around the band (I will not go into detail about them here). But back in November 2008 two new tracks had been available for free download on their official website. Several months later the news came out that a new album would be in store January 2010. No title is set but this rock band from Bordeaux, France has clearly proven that they can handle anything and come out on top.
