Established in 1992, these four friends from the north-west of France soon gained fame from their unique covers of songs by Neil Young and The Beatles. They even got the attention of FFF and opened for them on one of their tours. By the time it was time to release their first album, no one expect what was about to happen to Matmatah. La Ouache catapulted these guys from being and okay local band to being famous nation wide almost over night. The album even managed to sell 300,000 copies in just 6 months. Not bad for an almost oscure band at the time. It didn't hurt that they also went on a 2 and a half year tour with over 100 dates. This included major festivals and that got them an even greater fan base. This included gaining followers in India. Think about that for a second: a French band being popular in India. Not something you hear about everyday. Throughout this tour they countined with their Beatles covers and high energy shows. After the fame of their first album they've been able to release a new album every 3 years but nothing as big as their first. By last 2007/early 2008 Matmatah called it quits. Each member want to go and do their own music. However, it's still possible to hear what they sounded like thanks to the internet. Try a song called "La Cerise".http://www.myspace.com/matmatah
