Karkwa

Formed in 1998 it took these guys 5 years to get even an ounce of fame but they have never given up and are now among the circle of famous Quebec indie darlings. Back in 2001, the band won the Francouvertes music contest and were able to release their first album, Le Pensionnat Des Etabils, in 2003. By then Karkwa managed to top the charts of local campus radio stations and two critics at the Montreal alternative magazine called their album the best of the year. In 2005 when it was time to release their second album, none of the guys must have expected what was going to happen next when they were just starting out. In 2006 the band won three Felix Music awards and by 2007 they got to headline Quebec Scene with other indie acts from their home province. Karkwa is now currently touring around Quebec until the end of the year promoting their third album, Le Volume Du Vent.
